Future of 5G in Australia

5G wireless technology is a radically faster wireless internet that ideally is up to 20 times faster with 120 times less latency than 4G, setting the stage for IoT networking advances and support for new high-bandwidth applications. Though it will be years before the technology reaches its full potential worldwide.

Amid a leadership shake-up recently, the Australian government blocked Huawei Technologies, a Chinese company whose technology underpins mobile broadband for about half of all Australians, from building the country’s 5G network.

5G is the basis of future broadband networks and the demand for 5G is starting to grow. By keeping a leading 5G service provider out of the market, Australia has reduced the country’s supply of telecommunications infrastructure, but the government have their own reason for that.

“The Australian government’s decision to block Huawei from Australia’s 5G market is politically motivated, not the result of a fact-based, transparent, or equitable decision-making process,” Huawei said in a statement on Friday.

Although the decision is not aligned with the long-term interests of the Australian people and denies Australian businesses and consumers the right to choose from the best communications technology available. This will add up the cost of network construction to a non-competitive market have lasting effects on Australia’s transition to a digital economy.

The core idea of 5G network is that every device, and especially those that require consistent connectivity, will be able to get it from 5G networks. To effectively handle thousands of clients from a single cell, radical network re-engineering is required from all three of Australia’s networks.

Telstra CEO Andy Penn has indicated that it intends to be “amongst the world’s first” to launch a 5G network. So, stay tuned and be ready for a big change in the network industry that will happen soon.
